As a student of biomedical science and biomedical imaging, I continuously find myself amazed at how beautifully complex the world is. As scientists, we are in the unique position to look beyond the horizon of knowledge and observe the true complexity of life itself. But life is a mosaic made from many different parts all playing a much bigger role than we could begin to understand alone. That is why we are coming together, different universities in this dual degree program working and learning together to push the scientific knowledge horizon ever further. During my time with Professor Matsui's lab, I will be working to visualize the complexity of the brain in images and further our understanding of how it adapts its molecular patterns in complex situations. Imaging is a tool that is not exclusive but rather can be applied creatively to many different fields, it acts as a bridge between thought and vision, thus I am grateful to be able to work on a project that has such an elegant aim in visualizing an aspect of life itself. Beyond that, I am excited to experience science in a different country and wonder how a different primary language might shape the way science is performed.
科学と言語は、他方を抜きにしては成り立たない2つのメディアですが、一方のパフォーマンスや歴史は他方から影響を受けることがあります。世界がますます複雑になっていく中で、私たちはお互いに、そして科学の中で、これまで以上に明確なコミュニケーションをとる必要があります。画像は、直感的に理解でき、何を探せばよいかがわかる科学の言語です。画像を使えば、脳そのものの複雑さを理解し、それを普遍的な観察対象に分解することができます。

Tobias Dancker 氏、修士号学位記授与
Tobias Dancker 氏は、Maastricht University と東北大学大学院医学系研究科との Double Degree Program を修了し、このたび、東北大学からの修士号の学位記が授与されました 。新型コロナ禍にあったため、学位記も郵送してお渡しすることになってしまいました。下記、ドイツでのグリア研究会で直接手渡しすれば良かったのかもしれません。無事、受領のご連絡をいただきました。

Tobias Dancker 氏との感動の対面！
Maastricht University と東北大学大学院医学系研究科との Double Degree Program に参加してくれた Tobias Dancker さん。新型コロナ禍にあり、とうとう来日を果たすことはできませんでした。しかし、オンラインでの研究指導を重ねた結果、無事、東北大学からも修士号を授与することができました。その後、Tobias さんは、University of Saarland の博士課程に進学。現在、Marcel Lauterbach Lab に在籍しています。今回、University of Saarland の Frank Kirchhoff 先生主催のグリア研究会が開催されることになり、偶然にも Tobias さんとの初の感動の直接対面となりました。

Tobias Aaron Dancker 氏の修士論文審査会
"Correlation methods for mass spectrometry and immuno-fluorescence imaging（質量分析と免疫蛍光イメージングの相関法）"
Maastricht University と Tohoku University との Double Degree Program (DDP) を修了するにあたり、東北大学大学院医学系研究科での修士論文審査会を開催しました。Tobias 氏の場合、COVID-19にともなう日本の国境閉鎖の時期と重なってしまったため、遂には入国することができずに DDP 期間が終了してしまいました。それでも、２週間に一度のオンライン・ミーティングを10ヶ月に渡り松井教授と重ねて、ヒト脳組織標本を使って、質量分析イメージングと免疫蛍光イメージング方法を開発しました。修士論文審査は、主査：松井広教授（超回路脳機能分野）、副査：五十嵐和彦教授（生物化学分野）が務め、DDP 統括として、大隅典子教授（発生発達神経科学分野）にご参加いただきました。
